Co-operation and Trades Unionism.

It is, Bays Reynolds? Newspaper, a pleasing evidence of the new spirit which now moves -co-operative enterprise that a proposal has been submitted to the branches of the Co-operative Wholesale Society, that £5000 should be subscribed to the relief of the miners affected by the pre&ent crißis. There is no doubt that the proposal will be affirmed, for every month has revealed, a growing sympathy between the Co-operative organisations and Trades Unionism, and every opportunity ie being taken to emphasise the desirability of that alliance. The present proposal is that the £5000 should- simply go to relieve the widespread misery which now prevails in the coal mmmg 1 districts of the Midlands, but it is certain that most of the Co-opera-tive bodies interpret the idea as an expression of sympathy with the men who are bravely fighting against the action of the •employers in seeking to reduce their wages. >and therein lies its significance.
