A STORMY VOYAGE.
Privaie advices received at Lyttelton ' convey the intelliijen^e that another ▼eßsel, homeward bound from a New Zealand port, had a somewhat exciting • experienca willi bad weather and ice. The r ' barque Highland Forest, from Tinaaru, • which port she left on April 3, encountered ■-' a terrific gale oa May 3, when, at about 8 a.tn., the barometer fell from 2890 to 28-40. The sea thifc was raised by the gale took away the wheel and wheel-box, besides ';■ companion ladders and other things from the deck, and smashed in the main batch. In heaving the yes-el to she -went over on her beam ends, with fore and main yards in the water, and lay in that position for three daye, during which the gale raged with all its fury. The weather was bitterly cold, and a great many of the crew were frost-bitter*', and, to add to their discomfort, they ware unable to get anything to v eat or drink, as all the stores handy were spoiled. The lower topsail and foresail .wore cut away, and all the starboard bul- : -warka T?ere carried away. On the third day the glaaa started to rise, and gradually, ".as the "weather moderated, the vessel righted. For the next three days nothing ■was done but effecb repairs. la latitude - 49deg to 47deg south and longitude 47deg to 50deg west fully 150 icebergs were Dassed, some a mile long and averaging from 250 ft to 500 ft in height. "Fortun ately the weather at this time was fine, and the vessel waß kept well clear of the bergs.
