The Boating Season.
[Per Press Association.] DUNEDIN, Sept. 30. The boating season opened to-day, under most favourable circumstances. The weather was lovely and warm, and the water smooth as a mill pond, and there was an enormouß crowd of spectators on the wharfs. Over thirty boats, manned by members of three Eowing Clubs, took part in the procession, and there waß an innumerable fleet of small craft. The " Women's Franchise " crew who took part were the cause of much merriment. WELLINGTON, Oct. 1. The boating season was opened yesterday afternoon in most favourable weather.. In the absence of the Governor, who is ill, the Premier conducted the official ceremony, and there was a very large gathering of the public. All the Eowing Clubs and the Torpedo corps' naval cutters were represented.
The following entries have been received by the Union Bowing Club for the President's Cup, to be decided on Nov. 4 on the estuary :— G. H. Maßon, G. P. Lee, G. Lee, W. E. Mills (stroke); C. G. Maule, L. Ebert, J. C. Allan, G. H. Hobbs (stroke) ; S. L. Partridge, A. W. King, L. Longuet, W. Smith ' (stroke) ; A. Allan, C. Clark, A. C. Moltsen, A. E. Craddock (atroke ) ; and J. B. iNorrie, G. Minifie, JF. Shadbolfc, J. S. Howell (atroke). The following crews have been drawn for the Canterbury Eowing Club's President's Clip, to be rowed on Saturday, Nov. 4 :— Firs*, heat— F. W. Hobba (atroke), H. F. Nicoll (3), E. JF. Black (2), N. Roue (bow) ; v. J. T. Daly (stroke), T. A. Eevell (3), F. De Veaux (2), G. Mussen (bow). Second heat —H. Lightband (stroke), C. S. Bell (3), H. von Haast (2), C. Hawkes (bow) ; v. F. W. Dunnage (stroke), H. Hobbs (3), A. C. Macbeth (2), W. F. Ward (bow).
