» OPENING OF THE SEASON. Lancaster Park Club. This Club's game was the first eleven against the' rest of the Club, the latter batting first. Twenty-five wickets fell for 94 runs, of which Eonalds with a hard hit 15, E. Waller with 11 and H. Msrshftll and W. D. Meares wi.h 10 each were the only double-figure scorers. The eleven * scored 73 for the loss of four wickets, Wallie not out 30, De Maus not out 12 and Cant 12 being the chief scorers. Waeehotjsemkn's Club. . . The Ashley County Club opened its : season at Eangiora on Saturday. Thanks to the attention of the Ground Committee \ and the caretaker, the pitch was in capital order. Twenty- seven players put in an appearance,' and a match was arranged — \ a picked eleven v. sixteen. The latter went to the wickets first and made 61, Fendall 18, Gower 10, J. Anderson (not out) 7 and J. Mullins 6 being the highest scorers. The eleven put together 83, of which Sale' scored 30, Gulliver 20, and Chapman 12, each being not out, the two '< former declaring their innings closed. For tho eleven Garty and Biunden did the greater part of the bowling, each taking five wickets; and for the B.xteen Eenyon and Eee3 did moat execution.
