CYCLING.

NEW ZEALAND CYCLISTS' ALLIANCE. A meeting of the New Zealand Cyclists' Alliance waa held at the Pioneer Bicycle Club's room last evening ; presentMessrs E. A. England (Ashburton) in the chair, W. ■J. S. Hayward and F. J.. Dunn (Pioneer), W. F. Waller (Auckland), B>. Sneddon (Aahbutton), G. A. Julius (Oamaru), J. C. Cusack (Napier), Milner (Otago), and H. J. Moss (Hon Secretary). An apology for absence was received from Mr W. B. Eyre. The Secretary of the QueenaUnd Cyclißta' Union wrote asking the New Zealand team of cyclists to compete at a cycling race meeting to be held in Queensland about the time the Australian championships are run. As no date was mentioned in the letter no action was taken in the matter. A letter was read from the Lsague of American Wheelmen, stating that great preparations were being made for the international races to be held at the World's Fair, Chicago, on August 7 and 12, and that a New Z jiland representative would meet with a 1 /arty reception; The Secretary stated that a complaint had been made in regard to H. J. Pither acting as a pace-maker for a competitor in a Cash Amateur Race on May 24. Mr Pither wrote explaining the circumstances under which he acted as pace-maker for one of the riders in the race. The Alliance decided to caution Mr Pither not to repeat the action of which complaint had been made. Mr John Curries road . record from Dunedin to Invercargill, and Mr H. J. Pither's fifty-mile record o£ 2hra 57mia 30sec were passed. Letters were read from the following Clubs, offering donations towards defraying the expenses of the New Zealand team of cyclists to Sydney in September:— Auckland Cycling and Amateur Athletic Club .£lO, Pioneer Bicycle Club £5, Timaru Tourists' Cycling £5, Dunediu Cycling Club £3 3s, Aehburton Cycling Club £3 3d. The Wairarapa and Waimate Cycling and North Canterbury Bicycle Clubs wrote regretting that they wore unable to contribute towards the expenses of the team. The Secretary of the Otago Cycling Club wrote stating that at a meeting of the Committee of that Club, the action of the Club'B delegate ia voting againßt the Alliance's action in deciding to send a team to Sydney was approved. The Club declined to contribute anything towards the expenses of the team. Mr Cusack asked whether Mr Milner, the Otago Club's delegate, had voted against the proposal to send s, team to Sydney. Mr Milner said he did not vote on the question, but had written to the Otago Club stating that he was not in favour of the proposal. There had evidently been some misunderstanding. On the motion of Mr Cusack, the Secretary was instructed to thank those Clubs which had forwarded donations. The Alliance unanimously decided to vote .£25 towards the expenses of the team. The Secretary stated that the expenses of the team would probably amount to between .£7O and .£BO. He reported that the Selection Committee met recently, and selected Messi'3 W. J. S. Hayward (Chriatehurcb), A. C. Wilmot (Rangiora), E. Reynolds (Auckland) and C. Hall (Timaru) to represent ITew Zealand in the Australian championships to be held at Sydney in September nexb. The report was adopted. The Secretary of the Sydney Bicycle Club -wrote, stating that the Club intended holding a race meeting in Sydney on Sept. 9, and was endeavouring to get the Fivemile Championship of Australia included in the programme. Messrs C. H. Jones (Christchurch), F. G. Simpson (Kirwee) and H. J. Pither (Greendale) wrote, stating that they intended challenging 0. Hall to a trial before the team left for Sydney. The matter of deciding the place to hold the trial was left in the hands of the Selection Committee. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to fche Chairman.
