The Worthington Affair.

TO THE KDITOB. Sib, — In your issue of June 14, Sister Magdala makes the following statements referring to Mr Worthington .— " I unreservedly turned over to himjmy bank account and cheque-book . . . I give below menoranda of cheques paid by me between Jan. 1, 1889 and April lfi when I turned my bank account with cheque-book over to Mr Worthington's care. . . ." Now, Sir, I have before me the July number of the International Magazine for 1889, printed in New York and edited by Mr and Mrs Worthington. In this magazine, on page 25, there is an open letter signed Mary Bentley Worthington containing the following words :— " The International Magazine in which I am only a part owner, my present husband (referring to Mr Worthington) having become interested therein— has never paid the expenses of producing it. In this connection I will also Bay that the report that I have turned over money and securities of any kind or character to my present husband, or retained or possess any money or securities belonging to my former husband is an absolute and unequivocal falsehood. On the contrary, I wish to state just as emphatically that my present husband is possessed of ample means to aid me in carrying forward our work, and but for this we should be seriously embarrassed in the execution of our plan." I would only desire to draw attention to one or two points — (1) That Bister Magdala, iv your journal of June 14, says that in April, 1889, she turned everyI thing over to Mr Worthington, whereas she emphatically states in July that the ' report as to her turning over any money to Mr Worthington is " an absolute, and unequivocal falsehood;" (2) that Sister Magdala further emphatically states that Mr Worthington himself was possessed of ample means at this time, and that without his aid in this direction the work would be seriously embarrassed. Surely further comment on such equivocation is needle3B. —I am, &c, TRUTH.
