— ' • -' ■ ; THIS DAT. The Annual Metropolitan Bam Fair was held; to-day* under the auspices of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association, on the new Show Grounder Lincoln road. The : weather was cold in the morning, but improvedduring the day, and there' was the- largest attendance oi representative, sheep-growerft-from all parts of the Colony that has ever graced the" the Show Qrounds on any similar occasion. The greatest possible attention was paid to the sales made.' 'There was also the largest entry of sheep that has ever been Been ron. the (fame, ground, both of which faots fully justified the Committee of the Association in altering the date of the fair, The prices obtained throughout were in excess of anticipations; and* as a verj 6mall proportion of those offered were allowed to pass unsold, it is clear that the Bupply of sheep did not exceed the requirements of the district. A good many rame : were purchased for shipment ita the North Island,' ; but "the ! bulk* ''of •'- the South; downs and Lincolns sold in the earl] part ; of the day| 6 were purchased foi local use. The interchange of the stock froni each well-known Lincoln breeders as Messrs F. Sutton (Invewargill), and H. Overton and C. Withell (Canterbury), was a not& worthy feature of the aale.
