Flood Time. — An illustrated supplement showing some of the effects of the recent disastrous floods in Queensland is published with the current number of the Canterbury Timee. The illustrations have been prepared from photographs taken on the spot by Mr W. H. Greenfield, and give an excellent idea of the magnitude of the terrible calamity. They are no fancy sketches, but the actual reproductions of the camera, and will give a new interest to the published accounts of the floods. '■ Oxpobd Thbeaob Obchestbal Society. — A meeting for the formation of an Orchestral Society was held last evening at the Tabernacle Bohoolroom, and was well attended. Mr H. Cornck was in the chair, and stated that the objects of the proposed Society were to provide enjoyable recreation and aid in any good work. The Chairman spoke at' considerable length upon the sphere of usefulness open to the Society. About twenty instruments were represented. It : was decided. ;that the name of the Society should be the Oxford Terrace Orchestral Society. Mr A. Jenkins was Secretary; ,and a;Committee of Management, consisting of Messrs Sorrell, -'A; Lawrence, C. Ball, and W. Huiijljer, elected. The conductor, Mr H. A Cdinmittee of six gentlemen well-known in "Chrißtahurch accepted the. invitation Ho witness the performance on the ata|;e, and seemed even iriore 'mystified than the remainder of the audience who were not in so favoured a position. The "thought transference" tricks were performed by Madame Steen without any apparent assistance. The Professor, after performing a very clever transformation of water into wine, and vice versa, explained the modus operandi to the audience. Misß Ada Fitzroy was introduced' for ,, the first time as " the Georgia Magnet," an<d succeeded in baffling the efforts of the Com* mittee to lift her from the stage, or remove a billiard cue from her open hands. She, on the Other hand, lifted a member of the Committee with perfect ease.
