[Per Fbbsb Assooiation.l AUCKLAND, Feb. 28.

An important discussion took place this morning in the University Senate, on the question raised in a memorial from the Auckland University. Sir Maurice O'Rorke moved — " That the degree examinations in arts, science and the senior scholarships be held in future in the month of December/* Conjoined with this waa a motion asking the Senate to abolish the system of degree examiners in England, and appoint examiners in New Zealand and Australia in their place. The latter motion was, however, withdrawn pro tem. After a debate of two hours the proposition was negatived by fifteen votes to three, the majority of the Senate being averse to any change of the terms or the system of examination. Those voting for the motion were Sir M. O'Rorke, Bishop Cowie and the Vice-Chancellor.
