Butchers' Picnic.

There were beßideß numerous races and games for the ohildren under the direction ef Mr Victor, and a number of toys were distributed. Daring the afternoon Mr Eden George, the Mayor, drove on to the ground, and was received with cheers. He addressed a few words to those present, and for a couple of hours entered into the various amusements going on. Soon after seven o'clock the party returned to town, after a most pleasant and enjoyable picnic. In the evening a ball waa held in the Oddfellows' Hall, at whioh about sixty couples were present. The Mayor was present during the greater part of the evening and, by request, gave an addreas in which he stated that it gave him great pleasure to be at such gatherings, as he wished to mix with all classes of tbe community, by whicb he gained great experience. He thanked them for their kind invitation. At the conclusion of the addrees all struck up " For He's a Jolly Good Fellow." A number of songs, &c, were given, and dancing was kept up till the small hours. Messrs Hicks, Beese and Kerr made the arrangements for the picnic, and ball, and Mr Edwards, of Sydenham, catered during the evening.
