Dunedin Jockey Club.

DUNEDIN, Fbb. 21. fPBOM OUB OWN CORBEBPONDINT.I The sky is overcast at the time of writing, and it is just possible that rain mt»y fall to-morrow. However the weathei remains warm,, and a certain amount of rain will not affect the going. Prime Warden will probably start favourite for the Dunedin Cup, but Clanranald's connections are confident, and Thame baa been pleasing her friends during the last day or two.-: The horses engaged in the Cup will probably be ridden as follows:— Prime Warden (Coohrane), Clanranald (Clark), Scot Free (Gall), Thame (Pxiee), Captive (Bay), Awaraa Kose (Boss), Tempest (Pjne), Wyvern (Connop). Hippomenes is stated to be sore, and may not start for the Publicans' Handicap, while Morpheus pulled up lame in a gallop yesterday, and is a very improbable starter. [Pjbb Priss Association.! * There are large numbers of visitors in town for the Dunedin Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting, which commences tomorrow. The weather is dull and somewhat threatening. Squally weather, with rain Bhowers, is predicted. It is expected that eight will start for the Cup. " The Admiral" tipa Prime Warden, with Outpost or Lakeshell, for the Champagne Stakes, and Huguenot for the Publicans' Handicap. "Tipster" votes for Thame for the Cup, and North Atlantic for the Publicans' Handicap. "Mazeppa" thinks Clanranald will appropriate the Cup, and fancies Heather Bell for the Publicans' Handicap. DUNEDIN, Fbb. 22. While exercising at Forbury this morning Pique and Hippomenes collided. Pique, it is understood, ia injured, and is not likely to race at the meeting. Hippomenes was slightly hurt, and Buddicombe got a good shaking. HANDICAP HUBDLE BACE, of 80 sots ; second horse 10 sots. One mile and a half. Clarence, 9st 41b (Stewart) 1 Bebel, lOst 31b (Poole) 2 Justice, 9st (Clark) 3 Magpie was a decided favourite, Moonlight having the next call in the betting. Magpie and Bebel oleared ont from the field and led by half a dozen lengths till the bend for home, when Clarence came with a wet sail, and, cutting down the leaders, had them in difficulties before the last hurdle was reached, and led them over it by a clear length, romping home the easiest of winners by a couple of lengths, Justice an indifferent third, Magpie and Moonlight pulling up. Ormond's eh f Spxnaway, by Nordenfeldt— Spinnaker, Bst 71b 0 Lakeshell and Spinaway got away with the lead, and kept in command for half the journey. Entering the home turn Lakeshell had a length lead of the Hon J. D. Ormond's filly, and the latter was soon done with. Opposite the people's stand Leeeon brought Response up with a great rush, and, overhauling Lakeshell rapidly, had her settled half a dozen lengths from home. Outpost was four lengths away from Lakeahell, Persuasion and Gitano whipping in. Time— lmin 18£ sec. Dividends, £Z 9s and £3. DUNEDIN CUP HANDICAP of 600 sots; second horse 60 sots, and third 30 sots from the stake. Two miles and a distance. Mr J. Stephenson's b m Tempest, by New Holland— Tornado, 6st 111 b 1 Hon J. D. Ormond'B br m Thame, by Sword Dance— Lady Mersey, 7st 51b 2 Messrs M. and C. Hobbs' br h Prime Warden, by Apremont— Miss Kate, Bst 111 b 3 In the betting Prime Warden and Clanranald monopolised all attention, but, towards the finish, it was clear that there was a demonstration in favour of the Timaru horse. Clanranald was very fractious at the post, kicking in all directions. Mr Powell got them away to an excellent start, for which he Was heartily applauded. The race admits of easy description. Tempest led from the fall of the flag, never being once beaded, and won by a clear length. One of Price'B stirrups gave way just before entering the straight, else the issue might have been different. Prime Warden and Clanranald made their efforts five furlongs from home, but neither could get within halJ-a--dozen lengths of the winner ; Prime Warden finishing half a length in front of Mr Lunn's horse. Captive was whipper-in. Of 2142 investors 57 were on the winner. Mr Stephenson's viotory was immensely popular. Time— 3min 51& sec. Dividends .£32 7s and £35 6s. SELLING BACE, of 50 soys.
