This Day. : (Before- B. Weatenra and J. Forrester, Esqe.) Dbunkknnhss.—A female first offender for being drank and disorderly in Mancheater street in 1 Feb. 16 was fined 5s and costs, in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment. , ' Cases Dismissed. —Thomas Allen was charged with, assaulting Constable M'Alister while in the execution of his duty on Jan. 27. He was also charged with inciting a man named Alford to obstruct Constable M'Alißter while in the execution of his duly. Mr Hoban appeared for accused, who pleaded " Not guilty " to both charges. Constable M'Alister said he arrested a man on Jan., 27 for being drunk and disorderly. Accused was riding a horse, and attempted to ride over witness. The horse's head knocked witness on the Bhoulder, when he managed to get out of the way. Constables Jackson and Koater gave corroborative evidence. Accused said he was riding along High street about eight o'olock on the evening of Jan. 27. Constable M'Alister was engaged in arresting two men, and accused was watching all that was taking place. Accused never attempted to ride over the constable, James Gfambling, James Gilmour, Michael Hughes, John M'Taggart and Alfred Malzard gave evidence. All stated that Allen did not attempt to ride his horse over the constable. Both cases were dismissed. Horses at Labge.-—John Knight, sen., was charged with allowing four horses to w&nder at large at Linwood, on Jan. 31, and with rescuing them from Bichard Evans, poundkeeper at Linwood. Mr Hunt appeared for defendant, who denied both charges. Bichard Evans and Bichard Mueson deposed to finding the horses on Breeze's road, on the way to New Brighton. Defendant said he left his horses for ten' minutes to get a handful of hay out of a paddock. Defendant's wife said the horses were never on Breeze's road. The Bench dismissed both cases* Wife Desertion. — Thomas George Parry was charged with deserting his wife and leaving her without adequate means of support. He was also charged with deserting his two children. Mr Kippenberger appeared for complainant, who stated that her husband left her about a year and nine months ago. When he left her he gave her ss, and twelve months ago he Bent her JSI. She had not received any money from her husband for over twelve months. He had been working in the bush at New Plymouth, and had acted as advance agent for " Billy" Barlow, and as a mechanic for the Dobson, Kennedy Company. In answer to the Bench, defendant said he could not find sureties for the payment of contributions towards the support of his wife and children. The Bench remanded accused till to-morrow to enable him to consider the matter.
