A SHOCKING OCCURRENCE.
At 3 p.m. on Saturday Ipswich reported —A sad drowning fatality, resulting in the loss of the lives of four ohildren of Peter , Jackson, a well-known engine driver on the south-western railway, occurred this morning. They had a boat at their house on the bank of the Brisbane river, and were preparing to shifts their quarters, as the waters were rising, but when leaving a log struck the boat, whioh capsized, throwing the oooupantß, seven in all, into the water. The four drowned are:— Katie Jackson, aged eighteen j a boy, aged ten; and two. sisters, aged respectively eight and five. Mrs Jackson and the eldest daughter got into & tree. Mary Jackson reached the zoof of the house, aB did also a man who was in the boat with them at the time. Mrs Jackson was rescued from her perilous position, bub no information has yet been obtained respecting the fate of the eldest daughter and the man left on the roof of the house.
