DETAILS OF THE DISASTER.
Toowoomba, Feb. 6.Toowoomba has been oat off from Brisbane since Friday afternoon. There is no news from Brisbane of any eort, bat the following telegrams received yesterday from Ipswich, which is situated 23£ miles weßt of Brisbane, and has a population of over 10,000 persons, give all the particulars to hand respecting the atate of Ipswich on Saturday morning :—-Owing to incessant rains we have had the highest flood ever known in the history of the town. The flood is oaaeed principally by the back waters of the Brisbane river running upwards to the town. The flood-waters are level with the deoking of Bremer bridge, which connects North with South Ipswich, and which is from 70ft to 80ft high. .Yesterday people removed themselves and their goods to what they thought j safe ground; . bub this morning so i high is the flood that the Queensland National Bank, the Congregational Chnrch and the Primitive Methodißt Church nxe completely submerged, the waters reaching to the roofs. At Bundama, twenty-one miles from Brisbane, on the Ipswich line, ' with a population of about five hundred, soarcely a house is visible, all the people having fled for their lives to the hillß •round the town. A later telegram from Ipswich, timed 10 a.m. on Saturday, states :—No gas is available, as the gasometer is several feet under water. The trajns to Brisbane last evening were blocked at Eedbank and j cannot get either, way. Boats and punts are now plying in all the streets. A boat has just been to the rescue of the family of Peter Jackson, who had to take to the 'trees, where they have been all night. Goodna, a small township, with a population of about six hundred persons, Bituated between Ipswioh and Brisbane, is completely submerged.
