TEMPERANCE UNION.
At the annual meeting of the Women's Christian Temperance Union in Melbourne, j the annual report showed that in Victoria there are now ninety-nine branches, with > a membership of 4000. In addition to thiß ! there were 424 honorary members. In the ' juvenile department there were thirty- • four branches, having a total of 2953 mem- ! bers. A great amount of good was being j done amongst the young people. There I were also organisations for visiting the ! sick, making clothes for the poor, visitors Ito hospitals and hotels, &c. Altogether 1 there were 273 chief officers, and these had j numerous assistants. Missionary work ; had been carried on in remote country : districts throughout the year with conj siderable success. The rescue work had ; resulted in sixty-five girls being Bayed from . the streets ; nine of these were under sixteen years of .age.
