ROBBING A GRAVE.
j A despicable theft has been committed : at the grave of Sir James Macbain, in the j Boroondara Cemetery, Eew. Some miserable thief stole from the grave a large quantity !of ribbon with which the wreath b of | sorrowing friends were bound. The ribbon ; was worth about £10. One portion of it j tad held a beautiful wreath sent by the ! members of the Australian Club,' William ' street, the name of the Club being printed jon the ribbon in gold letters. It is difficult to conjecture to what use the stolen ribbon can be turned by the thief, but the police entertain the impression that he may seek the aid of a dyer, to disguise the stolen j property so as to be able to dispose of it without detection. Another theory is that •; the ribbon aroused the covetousnees of ■ some woman who chanced to see it upon I the grave and longed for a cheap adorn- | ment.
