• The ordinard ir«efcing of the Council was held this momiag; present — Mr D. M'Millan (Chairman), and Messrs W. Dunlop, J. Rennie, T. H. Anson, W. Boag, T. York, J. G. Murray, and H. W. Peryman. COBRESFONDENCE. Letters were received Prom th« Auditor-General returning the half-yearly accounts duly audited. From the Coalgate Domain Board, in reference to the appointment of members of the Board, declining to adopt the recommendation of the Minister for Lands, and suggesting that the law should be amended so as to define voting power; &c. From the Charitable Aid Board, enclosing a list of recipients of charitable aid. This was received with thanks. From the Avon Road Board, applying for the usual grant for cleaning the river Styx, and a subsidy for poisoned grain. It was resolved— "That the sum of JE4O be granted for the current year." From the Ellesmere Eoad Board, calling attention to damage done by freshes at the Selwyn township. The Clerk was instructed to aßk for further particulars. From Constable Haddrell, reporting a conviction for making a false declaration under the Dog Registration Act, and ask- . ing for the übubl 5 per.cent of the fine* Tin? was acceded to. . From the Minister for Lands, declining to do. anything in the matter of improving the drainage works at Lake Elleamere; also from Mr Parlane, in reference to the' state, of, the works. A long discussion took place as to the legal position of the Council. It was ultimately decided to reply that the legal poßition of the Council had in no way changed since 1890, and to request the Minister for Lands to accord a personal interview on his return from the South, so that this and other difficulties in connection with the Ellesmere drainage may be gone into, and if possible settled. Mr Murray thought that the Government should be aeked to reserve a portion of the unsold Ellesmere lands to meet the cost of the outlet of the lake waters, and so preclude the now apparent necessity for a further rate.From Mr Hickman, With reference to White's Bridge, and the report of Mr Dunlop thereon, recommending that the claim of £5 should be paid, and the supervision of the bridge be placed under the control of the Surveyor to the Avon Road Board. The consideration of a letter from the Lincoln Road Board, applying for a grant of .£IOO for main roads, and .£SO for drama, deferred from last meeting, was resumed. On the motion of Mr Peryman, seconded by Mr Dunlop, the sum of .£SO was granted for each purpose. WATER-BACEB. Reports on water-races were received from Mr Davies and Mr Wilson, also letters from the Hon the Minister for Lands and Mr Patterson. TKNDEEB. The tender (£204,) of Mr Miller for clearing the old river-bed at Ellesmere was accepted. Two other tenders received for the work were .£223 and J8230. PLANTATIONS. A number of small matters in connection with plantations were dealt with. ANNUAL MEETING!. The hour of twelve having arrived, the Chairman vacated the chair, and the Clerk presided at the election of a Chair* man. On the motion of Kr Dunlop, seconded by Mr Peryman, Mr M'Millan was re-elected. The proposer and seconder and Messrs Anson and Boag spoke in the most eulogistic terms of the Chairman's past services. Mr M'Millan paid a high compliment to the Clerk, Mr Jameson, for the way he had carried out his duties. NOMINATIONS. The following nominations were made : —For the Hospital Board, Messrs Peryman, Boag, York and Rennie; for the Charitable Aid Board, Meesrs Peryman, Western*, Yoik and Rennie. Accounts to.the amount of .£590 9a 8d were; passed for payment. The meeting then closed. ,
