Oddfellowship.
The half-yearly meeting of the Lyttelton District 1.0.0.P., M.U., was held atAkaroa on Thursday. Visiting brethren were met at Waekerlie's Hotel and invited to dinner. An adjournment was afterwards made to the Loyal Good Intent Lodgeroom, and business at once commenced; present — Prov. G.M. Bro E. Scott, D. Prov. G.M. Bro W. Toomey, Prov. C.S. Bro G. Dimond, Tyler P.G. Bro T. Staples. Lodgeß were represented as follows : — Perseverance, P.G. Bro T. LeComtejCity of Norwich, P.G.s Bros P. Ealam and J.L.Carroll; Timaru, P.G. Bro R. M. Griffiths ; Hand and Heart, P.G. Bro E. Paton; Heart of Friendship, P.G, Bro E. W. Harris; Good Intent, P.G.'a Bros J. Newton and D. Fyfe, Hand of Friendship, P. Sec. Bro C. F. Moore. The Prov. G.M. gave an interesting account of the progress of the Manchester Unity, of his visit to the various Lodges, and of other mattera interesting to brethren, and received the thanks of the meeting for the same. A considerable amount of correspondence was dealt with, including applications from two .bodges for refund of funeral donations advanced. Fines recorded against several Lodges for not sending in annual returns were rescinded. A motion from the Lojal Perseverance Lodge, that the District; should pay the travelling expenses of delegates, was ruled out of order. The Prov. C.S. gave a report of the business transacted at the recent conference in Nelson. The delegates expressed their pleasure at the courtesy extended the Prov. C.S. by the brethren of the Nelcon District. The report of the Lodge Book examiner was received and adopted. The balance-sheet, showing the finances of the District to be very satisfactory, was received and adopted, after which the nomination of officers waa proceeded with sb follows :— Prov. G.M., D.P.G.M. Bro W. Toomey ; D. Prov. G.M., P.G.a Bros Hilton and Watts. The Secretary was instructed to procure the necesßary information as to the cost of printing District reports. The matter of renovating the tablet erected in the Akaroa church to the memory of the late Bro Ellis was left in the hands of P.G.'a Bros Whitfield and Newton to deal with. It was unanimously resolved to ask the North Canterbury District to give effect to the wishes of the Loyal Addin»ton Lodge, regarding a biography of P.P°G.M. Bro Kent for insertion in the magazine, the Secretary to supply any information available. Accounts amounting to £40 were passed for payment. The Grand Master's warrant wae then read, and the Purple conferred on P.G. Bro H. Eichtield and Permanent Secretary Bro C. W. Leete. An invitation waa extended to all to attend a ball in the evening. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the brethren of the Loyal Good Intent Lodge for the manner in which they had entertained the delegates, after which the meeting was duly closed. At the ball held at the Oddfellows' Hall about ninety couples promenaded. The catering, music and decorations were all that could be desired, and n most enjoyable gathering terminated at 5 a.m.
