♦ Thk Harbour Boaed Chairmanship.— The members of the Lyttelton Harbour Board will elect their Chairman for the ensuing year at the next meeting of the Board, on Feb. 23. Bicycle Touring Club. — The ÜBual monthly meeting of this Club waa held last evening, Captaia B. P. Clarkson in the chair. There was a large attendance of members. The following were elected active members :— Messrs W. J. Cole, Q. Bankin, H. E. Yonng and M. Woodward. Messrs W. M. Service and J. A. Cooper, visiting cyclists from Auckland and members of the A.A.A. and C.C., were elected honorary members during their stay in Christchurch. After making final arrangements for the Club's smoke concert, to be held on Monday next, the meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the Chairman. The Fire Brigades' Association. — The annual meeting of the United Fire Brigades' Association of New Zealand will be held in Christchurch on Monday and Tuesday, March 14 and 15 next. On the preceding Sunday there will be a church parade of the Fire Brigades at the Cathedral. On the evening of Wednesday, March 16, there ia to be a torchlight procession and display of fireworks. The annual prize competition of the Brigades will take place at the Addington Show Grounds on Thursday and Friday, March 17 and 18. In the evening of the latter day there will be a social entertainment to the visiting firemen. A Testimonial.— Meears Ballantyne and Co. have received from Mrs H. M. Stanley the following letter: — "I cannot leave Christchurch without expressing to you our satisfaction with the various things we bought at Ballantyne's.— Mr Stanley's dressing-gown, the Eaiapoi' rug, but especially with the dress you made for me of New Zealand tweed. The fit is as perfect as any ' Eedfern dress,' and so moderate in price that were it not for the distance I should be tempted to send to New Zealand for all winter dresses. The cloak I you made me is also the very thing I wanted. — Tours truly, Dorothy Stanley." The tweed used for the dress was manufactured by the Kaiapoi Woollen Company. Early Settlers' Conversazione. — The inaugural conversazione of the Canterbury Early Settlers' Association in the Oddfellows' Hall last night was a very enjoyable and interesting gathering. There was a fairly numerous attendance. A collection of pictures, photographs and other objects j of interest connected with the early history j of Canterbury was exhibited. His Worship j the Mayor and Mr W. Pratt gave short addresses. Apologies were made for the ' absence of the Hons C. C. Bowen and W. P. Beeves, the Yen. Archdeacon Dudley and Mr J. E. Fitzgerald. Light refreshments were provided by Mr James Freeman. An excellent musical programme was rendered by Mißseß Fanny Martin, Howland, Ynrtha and Long,, and Meßsra A. Appleby, Weir, Beginald Foster and Carder. Ancixnt Order of Foresters. — The fortnightly meeting of Court Star of Canterbury was held on Monday evening, the C.8., Bro N. T. Eldridge in the chair, and all the newly-elected officers present, with a moderate attendance of members and visiting brethren from Kaiapoi and Punedin. The Woodwards presented a very favourable sick report. The C.B. read the report of the last district meeting, which was received. A circular waa read from the Secretary to the Friendly Societies' Conference, also a draft copy of rules in reference to medical benefits for members residing in a district where there is no branch of their Order. After Borne discussion it was held over for consideration at the next summoned meeting. One member was proposed for initiation. After dealing with the correspondence and passing sick pay the C.B. closed the Court in the usual manner. Eeceif ta of the even.' ing JE33 23.
