LONDON, Jan. 14. The Bank of England returns, pub. lished to-day, show the reserve in notes and bullion to be .£13,892,000. The proportion of reserve to liabilities is 37*52. Consols 95|. Three months' bills are at If per cent. New Zealand 4 per cent inscribed stock 102£, ditto 3 j per cent 93. j New Zealand long-berried wheat ■ 41s, market quiet. I Canterbury mutton, 4|d ; beef, hindquarters, 4d. A thousand bales of New Zealand | hemp were sold at the following < prices : — Good Auckland «£22 ss, fair Wellington .£2O 10a. Kauri gum is ! in good demand ; fine pale scraped i £7, half-scraped .£3. Factory made butter by the Tongariro realised 124s per cwt. Sugar — German beet, 14s 9d, market steady ; Java, 16a 3d, market quiet. No. 1 best Scotch pig iron, f.o.b. 455, demand restricted. South Australian wheat, 455, market flit ; Victorian ditto, 44s 3d. The Antwerp wool 6alea take place on Jan. 21 and 22. Up to date 4000 bales have been catalogued. Of this number 350 bales are Australian wool.
