DUKE OF CLARENCE.
♦— ■ [Per Pbbss Association.] MELBOURNE, Jan. 16. The day fixed for the funeral of the Duke of Clarence will be declared a day of general mourning 1 . WELLINGTON, Jan. 16. A. district order has been ieaued by Lieutenant - Colonel Newall, announcing to the Colonial forces, with deep regret, the death of, the Duke of Clarence, and calling upon all Volunteers to wear mourning when in uniform for a period of two months. DUNEDIN, Jan. 16. Government does not intend to proclaim a day of mourning for the Duke of Clarence, but minute guns will be fired on the day of the funeral. The Masonic Lodges throughout Ofcago under the English, Irish and Scottish Constitutions, have been instructed to go into mourning, for three months, in consequence of the death of the Bight Worshipful Brother the Duke of Clarence.
His "Worship the Mayor has forwarded the following message to H.E.H. the Prince of Wales : — " Citizens deplore great loss to Empire. General grief and ympathy manifested."
