■ Chops in the South. — The crops in the • Tokomariro plain are reported by the j Bruce Herald not to have suffered so much j from the recent rains as was expeoted, and ; a splendid harvest may yet be anticipated. In the Clutha district the wet weather has led to an unusual growth of straw, which in many places is from 6ft to 7ft in length. The small birds are causing a good deal of ; damage.
