CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB.

The Committee of the Canterbury Jockey Club met yesterday afternoon. The mombers present were — Messrs W. H. Wynn-Willmms (Chairman), Donald, Rhind, Studholme, Stead, C. Hood Williams, Dr Prina and the Hou E. W. Parker.

Mr PJ. Cutta wrote, a3king that a sum be voted from the Distressed Jockey Fund to Eoss, a rider, who wa3 inj ured at Napier. It was pointed out that the request could not be entertained, inasmuch as the rules provided that tho fuud could only be used for jockeys injured ontheßicourton course. The request of Mr H. M. Reeves to bring before the Conference his request for the registration of the lute Hon W. Reeves' colours wag considered. Before taking action it waß resolved to write to the Dunedin Jockey Club to ascertain it' Mr F. R. White would withdraw his claim to the colours. The application of the Chriscchurch Hunt Club for the use of the course for steeplechases on August 15 wc3 granted. Mr G. H. Clifford was elected to represent the Club at the Wellington Conference. The following new rule, adopted by the Club, will be moved at the Conference by Mr Clifford : — "No horse in whoeo ownership any paid official at a race meeting, or any person engaged in working the totalisator thereat has auy interest, shall be qualified to be entered or start at Buoh meeting. Any such person so entering or starting a horae shall be liable to a fine not exceeding .£100." Mr Clifford will also move for the insertion of a new rule providing for tho registration of racing partnerships. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr G. P. Williams for his past services, and it was resolved that a complimentary ticket to each race meeting of tho Club be presented to him. The Programme Committee submitted tho programme for 1891-92 that had been prepared. The dates for the Spring Meeting were fixed for Nov. 9, 11 au«l 14, and many important alterations c.re noticeable from last year's bill of fare. The value of the Criterion Stakes has been increased from 100 to 150 soys, the Juvenile Stakes from 200 to 250 soys, and Islington Plato from 75 to 100 boys. The designation of the Jockey Club Stakes haa been altered to the Jockey Club Handicap, and the value of tho stake has been increased by 50 soys. The Consolation, in future to be known as the j Farewell Stakes, has had 20 soys added to I it, and will be worth 100 soys to the winner. The names of the post entry races have besn altered, the one to the j Shorts and the second to the Auction Handicap. In regard to the Midsummer Mooting, the value of the Midsummer Handicap, formerly designated the Midsummer Plate, has been raised from 150 to 200 soys. The Craven Plate, of 100 eovb, takes the place of the Craven Stake 3, of 80 boys. Some of the names o£ the other races have been altered j the Hornby Welter' Pinto to Hornby Welter Handicap, the Scurry to the Interval Stakes and tho Consolation to the Poat Stakes.

It is in the autumn bill of fare that the chief alteration has been made, for tho Great Autumn Handicap has been banished from tho first day, and a new race— the Great Easter Handicap, of 500 aovs, and over a course of seven iurlongs — has taken its place. The Great Autumn takes the place of the Eaßter Handicap on the second day of the meeting. The names of the races altered are the Sockburn Handicap to Templeton Stakes, Post Stakes to Gimcrack Race, the Nursery Handicap to Nursery Stakes, and Cousolation to Final Handicap. Some slight alterations have been made in the length of some of the courses.
