A Tragedy.

A shocking tragedy occurred in Lincoln lato on March 31. Arthur Spencer, a porkbutcher, had been paying his addresses to Mary Ann Garner, a widow with four children. She refused to marry him, bub he persisted in visiting her, and on Sunday, it is stated, he threatened to shoot her and himself if she did not relent. Sho took no notice of this threat, and on Tuesday night Spencer went to her house in Stanley Place, and, after an altercation, it i 3 alleged shot the woman in the left breast. Sho staggered into a neighbour' 3 house and died within an hour. The police were summoned, and on entering Garner's house they found Spencer lying on the floor shot in the mouth. He wa9 taken to the hospital and ia not expected to recover. Three of the children were in bed in an adjoining room when the tragedy wa3 committed. The fourth, a boy of fourteen, helped his mother into the neighbour's house.
