LICENSING COMMITTEE.
Christchurcti North-east. The annual mepting of the Licensing Committee for tho north-east ward was held to day, when the whole of the members, viz., Messrs P. J. Kimbell (Chairman), B. Westenra, J. V. Ross, J. P. Jameson, and E. VV. Humphreys, were present;. The police report on the various houses having been considered, the following licenses woro unreservedly granted : — W. F. Warner, Commercial; Henry Haddrell, Markot; Joseph Perkins, Albion ; W. Savage, Star and Garter; Jane Simmons, Oxford; Patrick M'Gill, Garrick. For permitting bad characters to frequent their premises, Henry A. Kent, Palace; Thomas Brooks, Central ; and Eubina Conlan, Criterion, were cautioned, but the licenses were renewed. Charges or Sunday trading having been preferred against H. D. Caudweli, Victorian, and J. Sweeney, Golden Fleece, the licenses were only renewed on the understanding that the illegal trading be altogether suppressed. Tho application of William M'Leod, Foresters', was adjourned till June 16, as a case was pending against the licensee.
