That poor Salvation Army lieutenant who was drowned by the upsetting Of a canoe on the Wanganui river deserves thatitle; if ever it was deserved. They all dc The most extraordinary feature about this extraordinary sect of modern times is the absolute indifference to human respect, the moral courage, and the thoroughness which distinguish all ita disciples, and more particularly thoße holding authority. Nothing Is too difficult for them to attempt, nothing ia too repulsive for their charity, nothing seems to exhaust their patience. Enduring, praying, striving, exhorting, helping, warning, praising, they go through life with a single idea— a noble magnificent spiritual idea. They deserve the respect of their fellow-men, and they ought to get it. When we learn of one who, like this Wanganui officer, has encountered death in the discharge of
duty, let us all take off our hats to hi memory and wish peace to his ashes.
