NAUTICAL INQUIRY.
o [Peb Pbbbs Association.] WELLINGTON, Feb. 2. A nautical inquiry was held to-day into the steamer Pukaki striking a rock in Obam Bay, on the morning of Jan. 17, while on the voyage from Westport to WellingtoD. The evidence showed that the Pukaki was coining into the bay for shelter, the weather being very stormy. The Court held that Captain Oliver should have used more precautions to ascertain hiß position than he did, and that had the log been used it would have been apparent that the vessel was nearer Ohau Bay than was indicated by the bearinge. The captain alao erred in not heaving the lead. Hid certificate was returned, but he was ordered to pay the coats of the inquiry.
