RIFLE ASSOCIATION MEETING.

Q. [Peb Pbess Association.] PUKETAPU, Jan. 21. Fredericks had his finger amputated at the hospital last night. Examination showed that it had been hit by a bullet, and not by a splinter. The officers are at a loss to account for the accident, unless it was that Fredericks in turning the target had moved his hand above the sides of the trench. This is the first accident that has happened in connection with the Association. A subscription-list for the injured man was started in the camp. At a meeting of the competitors this morning it was unanimously decided to continue throughout the meeting the new system of counting sighting shots. The Hawke's Bay Match, counting for the Belt, 500 and 600 yds, ten shots each distance, was fired this morning. The weather was capital for shooting, and some good scores were put on. Corporal Hutchinscn (North Dunedin Rifles) came within one of the posBible at the first distance; The second Bighter was a centre, and all the rest bullseyes. Stitt (Wellington Navals) made 48; and then a large number of otbera came next with 47 and 4G. At the long range Hutohinson broke up and could only put on 28. Stitt also fell away, making 36. The top score at this range wbb 46, made Corpl Ballinger (Wellington Guards), and as he had 44 to his credit at the 500 yards, he took the first prize with a total of 90.
