INQUEST AT LYTTELTON.
An inquest was held at Lyttelton yesterday afternoon in connection with the death of the lad Olar Enlund, on Sunday evening, from injuries received by an accident on No. 7 Wharf on Friday last. Mr E. Weatenra was Coroner, and Mr Schmidt was chosen Foreman of the Jury. Dr Pairmah described the injuries. The right arm was broken in two places, and amputation at the shoulder- joint was necessary. The most serious of the injuries was a wound between the legs. Apart from the amputation the shock to the system was so great that deceased could not live. James Paton, a shunter: Eemenibered removing some trucks from No. 7 Wharf 'on Friday, between 11 a.m. and noon. Torik charge of them and rode on the leading waggon. I could got control of the bxake from my position on the truck. The trucks had been " kicked "from the engine, and were travelling along the rails. Got off the waggon to turn some points, to do which I had to run ahead of the waggons. As I .passed one of the doors of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company's shed I saw some boys standing inside.. I stood by the psints, and as the third waggon passed I noticed a boy on the opposite side. He seemed to be hanging on between the third and last waggon, and just as I caught sight of him he fell. Am sure one wheel went over the boy ; fancy both passed over him. The boy was lying on the rails just at the points, and was face downwards. Groves Meikle, a boy of fourteen, wa3 "with Enlund on Friday. Saw the trucks come from No. 7 Wharf, and go towards the Harbour Board shed. Saw the shunter jump off. One of the other boys said "Let us see the brake put on." Three of us ran up to the trucks, and then Enlund said " I think I will have a ride." Enlund then left us, and got between the third and last waggons. I think he tried to get on the couplings, but lost his footing and fell. I saw the truck lift up about a foot from the rail. Without retiring the Jury brought in a verdict "That deceased met his death by accident, and that no blame 13 attached to anyone."
