On Saturday afternoon two accidents occurred at Lyttelton, one of which was a very serious one. The second son of Mr S. Derbidge, aged about fourteen years, was in the act of getting into Mr Shepheard's cart on the Governor's Bay road, when the horse moved on before the boy had got a firm hold of the cart, and he fell to the ground. One of the wheels of the cart passed over his body, and upon being examined by Dr Pairman, it was found that he had sustained a fracture of the collar-bone and had been injured internally. From enquiries made yesterday welearnedthat the sufferer was'progressing as well as could be expected. The other accident, or rather narrow escape from what might have been as Berious, happened to a boy named Bamford. He fell in Norwich Quay when passing in front of a .horse and trap being driven by Mr W. Holmes, and but for the prompt action taken by the driver in stopping the horse, one of the cart wheels would have passed over the boy's body. As it was he got severely jammed by the wheel, but was not seriously hurt.
