ASHBUBTON RACING CLUB.

The annual general meeting of members of the Ashburton Bacing Club was held on Saturday evening. There was a large attendance, and the chair was occupied by Mr C. W. Purnell. The Committee, in submitting their report, congratulated the Club upon the -•access of the past season. The total receipts amounted to £1385 2. 4d, compared with £1340 17s 2d the previous season, and the expenditure to £139- 14s 103, compared with £1251 4s 9d the previous year. The Committee had materially reduced the fees for nomination and acceptance, which accounted for the lesser amount received from owners. The .racing during the past season was better' than had been the case for some years.. The attendance of the public had improved, and the returns from the totalisator showed a very satisfactory increase. The sum of £194 lis 6d had been expended on permanent improvements, and it was hoped that shortly the erection of a new grand stand might be undertaken. A sum of £10 was at the credit of the •Club's Distress Jockeys' Fund. Six new members were balloted for and elected. The following officers were elected for the en_uing year : — President, Mr E. G. Wright; Vice-president, Mr John Grigg; Stewards, Messrs Crisp, Denshire, Hugo .Friedlander, J. C. N. Grigg, W. M. Lyttelton, Drs Leahy and Tweed ; Judge, Mr M. Stitt ; Treasurer, Mr D. It was decided that the Club's Spring Bace Meeting should be held on Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 19 and 20. A private cablegram from Melbourne, received in Ashburton on Sunday, conveyed the news that David Price and his famous trotting mare Princess had been disqualified for ever for fraudulent running. A race in which Princess, ridden by D. Price, was a competitor, was won by a horse ridden by N. Price, in whose interest it was considered that Princess was "stiff."
