Scholastic. — A special meeting of the Dunedin High School Board of Governors was held on Wednesday for the consideration of the applications, of which there were nineteen, for the position of matron for the Girls' High School boarding establishment. The meeting was attended by the Key Dr Stuart (Chairman), the Hon W. H. Beynolds, M.L.C, the Hon T. Dick, the Bey A. B. Fitchett, Mr J. M'Kenzie, M.H.8., and the Mayor. The appointment was conferred on Mrs Elizabeth Boss Mackay, of Christchurch, who was at one time. a teacher inthe Girls' High School. The Otago Daily Times says : — The successful applicant was educated in the Tain Boyal Academy, and has had considerable experience in the Colony as a teacher and as the Manager of boarding establishments, both in connection with the Oamaru Grammar School and the Christchuroh Girls' High School. The testimonials which Mrß Mackay presented in support of her application speak very highly of her qualifications, and include references from the following persons: — Mrs M. Gordon Burn, Lady Principal of tbe Waitaki Girls' High School; Mrs Maomillan Brown, Lady Principal of the Christchurch Girls' High School; Mr W. S. Fitzgerald, Sector of the Training College, Dunedin; Dr Hislop, Dunedin; Mr L. B. Wood, Inspector of Schools, Christchurch; the Beys Dr Elmßlie and Gordon Webster, Dr Guthrie, Messrs John Anderson, Peter Cunningham, W. H. Hargreaves, B. J. S. Harman and H. B. Webb, Christchurch ; Mr James Hay, Timaru; Mr John Scott, Sector of Tain Boyal Academy ; and the Misses Black and Callender, Young Ladies' Institntion, .Edinburgh.
