, A Pisx Jubilse Singbe.— At the Wel- . lington Supreme Court yesterday, in Chambers, Mr R. B. Williams, 8.A., of Yale University, and formerly a member of > the Fiak Jubilee Singers, waa admitted as ; a barrister and solicitor. . E-BBIT EXT-BMINATION. —Mr Ot. G. i Morton, the President of the Ballarat ! Agricultural, and Pastoral Society, has received a communication from Mr Stavely, ; of Marlborough, New Zealand, in which he states that he has prepared and patented a composition paßte, which has been found 1 thoroughly effective in suppressing the rabbit pest in districts where it has been tried. He is willing to send a man over to Victoria at his own expense on condition that the landowner, or Council or Society employing him for the trial pay him 80s per week and board him for a period sufficient to test tbe efficiency of his ] method. If the employing parties were then satisfied, thoy were to pay J320 per j annum to have their land kept clear of rabbits. Mr Morton intends bringing the offer under the notice of the Minister for Agriculture and the chief Eabbit Inspector, with the view of a trial being arranged by the department, but, failing in the endeavour, Mr Morton will probably act in the matter himself . It seems rather singular, remarks a contemporary, that Mr Stavely should have to go to Victoria to try his composition. There is no laok of rabbits ! 1 in New Zealand. (
