RAILWAY SERVANTS.

THE LYTTELTON TEOUBLE. In connection with the matters reported in our last issue, the deputation appointed at the meeting on Friday night, waited on Mr Garstin, the Traffic Manager, the following morning, and were most courteously received. He stated that there was some misconception on the part of the men, as there was no intention to remove any of the staff, and no order had been issued to discharge any of the men employed. He stated that some few changes had been made in tbe work on which, they were employed. The deputation thanked Mr Garstin for their courteous reception, and he expressed the hope that any cause of complaint would in future be brought before him. The Traffic Manager visited Lyttelton on Saturday afternoon. The consequence was that Huston was immediately reinstated, and it is understood that the casual hands sent away are to be employed as previously. Mr Garstin is said to have remarked that he would be the last person to have discharged any elderly men with no other excuse than that they were getting advanced in years. Subsequently, a representative from the Eailway Servants Union waited upon the members of the Wharf Labourers' Union, who had arranged to take some action in the matter and had been called together on Saturday evening, and informed themof the facts. The trouble has ended in a manner which is no doubt satisfactory to all concerned.
