WELLINGTON CITY COUNCIL.

[Per Pbess Association.] WELLINGTON, Apeil 17. At a meeting of the City Council this evening the following resolution was carried without discussion, and a copy will be forwarded to the Colonial Secretary:— "That the Committee is of opinion thab the advantage (if any) to be obtained from bringing the Contagious Diseases Act into force locally in Wellington is not commensurate with the cost; and, further, is of opinion that to do much practical good the operation of such an Act should be general throughout the Colony." The Finance Committee's report was adopted. It thows the estimated receipts for the current year on general account to be .£25,449, and after providing for fixed items of expenditure, £7860 is left for street works and drainage. Of this amount .£6820 is apportioned to streets, and the balance to drainage. The estimated receipts on water-works account are After providing- for interest and working expenses there will be a balance of J81470 available for providing additional dams at Wainui. The rates for the current year will be a general rate of la in the £ ; water rate 5 per cent on houses receiving water, and 21 per cent on rateablo value of stores, etc ; special rate for interest on city improvement loan, 6d in the £ ; Hospital and Charitable Aid rate, 3d in the £. The salary of the Town Clerk waa increased from £400 to £450.
