Bible Society.

On "Wednesday afternoon, April 16, the Rev H. T. Robjohns, 8.A., had a conference with the Committee of the North Canterbury Auxiliary at the rooms of the V.M.C.A., Christchurch. He expressed regret for the death of their longtried and faithful friend, Rev T. R. Fisher; made some suggestions as to the coming anniverGary ; pointed out the premier position occupied by this Auxiliary, and at the same time how little New Zealand, as a whole, did for this great missionary ag«;ncy, whilst the Society's need of help was very great ; described a meeting lately held with the Maori Church Board in connection with the opening of a new English Church at Manutukea settlement, in which the Maoris pledged themselves to do something for that organisation, which had provided 141,000 copies of the Scriptures for tham. He alao called attention to a remarkable speech by Major Steward at Ashburton, which contained some striking facts and valuable suggestions respecting the Society's work. He concluded by pointing out that it would be well to conBtitute a Sub-Committee to develop branches all over North Canterbury, which should further Bible circulation in their own neighbourhood, and do something towards providing for them who still sit in darkness. These branches should be deputationised by delegates from the Central Committee, who would thus do great good, and deepen their own interest in the Bible Society. On all these matters there was a full and animated discussion. In the evening Mr Robjohns delivered an address on "The Systematic Study of the Scriptures " in Trinity Congregational Church.
