Football enthusiasts are reminded of Saturday's game at Lancaster Park. 1 The Acclimatisation Society. —We publish elsewhere in this issue the list of members of the Council of the Acclimatisation Society, who were elected at the annual meeting on Wednesday evening. It will be seen that the anglerß have secured the return of the whole of their candidates. We hope that now they are so well represented on the Council they will carry out their promises by acting in the beßt interests both of sporb and of the public. During the winter there should be no difficulty in framing regulations for the sale of trout, which, while giving to the public the opportunity of purchasing these fish, will not be detrimental to legitimate angling. . A Find. — Yesterday afternoon a man was rowing down Lyttelton Harbour towards the ketch Clematis, .when he discovered an old black felt hat, inside of which was a child's boot and some calico wrappers, the latter being stained with blood. The articles appeared as if they had not been long in the water, and the matter was reported, to the police. Sergeant O'Malley and Constable Drake took a boat and rowed • over the spot,, but failed to find any other articles. Steamer and Dredsb. — A meeting of the Provisional Directors of the Avon Steam Packet Company was held yesterday afternoon. The prospectus was adopted and ordered to be printed. It will be issued on. Saturday next. The members of the Drainage Board are in full sympathy with the movement to establish the Company, as they recognise that the dredge will.be an efficient means of clearing the river. The shares are going off well, over, half the required quantity being taken up. It has been decided to increase the capital from .£IOOO to .£ISOO. Mr H. R; Walker was appointed broker, and there is every prospect of the Company being a success. Christohurch Fire Brigade.— At a special meeting of the Brigade held on Monday evening, and presided over by Mr E. Smith, it was unanimously agreed to grant their patronage to the Garrison Band concert to be held this evening, and to do so in the most practical manner by purchasing forty tickets, and attending in a body, as the firemen think the band deserves better treatment from the public of Christchurch in the way of support than it has hitherto received. If the Volunteers will only follow the example set by our firemen and roll up in a body, the most deserving band in Canterbury will have a bumper house. Chribtchukch Association Football Club. — The opening game of this Club will, be played on the U.C.C. ground, Hagley Park, on Saturday.
