Linwood Town Board.

An ordinary meeting of this Board was held on Monday at 7.30 p.in ; preEent — Commissioners Hardie (Chairman), Bergh, Atkinson, Jameson, W. Smith, Goodman and Dombrain. Correspondence was read — Prom the Selwyn County Council, asking for payment of the Hospital and Charitable Aid rates. Referred to tke Finance Committee. From Mr Thomas P. Tait, asking tc bo appointed to number the houses in the district at a minimum charge of one shilling per number. Referred to Works Committee. A letter from Mis 3 E. Sullivan was also received. The Finance Committee reported : — With regard to the petition for a concrete channel in E.S. 29, South side of Armagh street, the Committee estimates that there are just sufficient funds for the purpose, but funds cannot be provided for any more of thiß work during the current year. Receipts since last meeting, .£362 14s 2d ; credit balance at Bant, J8270 7s Bd. Sundry accounts were presented for payment. Tho report was adopted. A routine report from the "Works Committee was received and adopted, liesolved — "That the Work 3 Committee bo authorised to have a concrete channel and kerb laid on the South side of Armagh street, in R.S. 29. The Board then eat as tha Local Board of Health. The Sanitary Committee reported : — With regard to Messrs Froatick, Irvine, and Sey's letter, your Committee finds that no petition has been received asking fora concrete channel in the part of Cashel street referred to ; neither haa any offer to pay tho half-coßt of such channel been made. The channel is in a very bad state, caused by the drainage of slops into it; and the Committee recommends that the writers be informed .that if a petition is received the Board will lay a concrete channel as soon as funds will permit, the property-owners to pay halfcoat as usual; and, further, that the householders be -written to and requested to abate the nuißance by ceasing to drain slops into the channel. 'Ihe report wa3 adopted. The Inspector's report waß read, and the meeting terminated.
