The Domain.

As we ventured to hope, Councillor Gray last Monday obtained, with very little opposition, the appointment of a Committee to consider the advisableness, or otherwise, of the City Council applying to Parliament for power to take over the control of the Domain. There was eome opposition, but this was from Councillor Beese, who was twitted by Councillor Soott with opposing the motion, because he was not the author of it. Councillor Beese, however, admits that a nominated Board ia objectionable, and to that extent favours a change in the management of the , Domain. He contends that though the ; Domain Board should be an elected body, and the City Council is an elected body, it is not advisable to entrust the Domain to the Council. In connection with this matter, a very instructive account is contributed by our Ashburton correspon- j dent of the management of the Domain there. Ashburton's success undoubtedly offers a strong incentive to those who are actively interesting themselves in the pro* jected change.
