Intercolonial Freetrade.
In Dunedin the Manufacturers' Association is arranging a conference of Australasian delegates to consider this question — wherein that body is rising to the really great occasion of the Exhibition with a really great idea. Intercolonial Freetrade is a very different thing from the Freetrade of the Freetraders. Universal Freetrade haa been rejected in this country because we refuse to compete with the povertystricken labourers of the Old World, dockmen at 5d per hour, and such like. Between the workpeople of these Colonies, well fed, well clothed, well organised, rivalry must remain in a healthy condition. If the Australians see it in that light, New Zealandera may^very well doeo too, for they have the additional inducement that the exchange must be always in favour of the country which can produce the beat food supply and turn out the best race of men and women. We hope to hear more of the Dunedin CongreßS.
