FAIRFAX'S FAREWELL. [Spxchl to Pssse Association.] BTDNKT, Sbpt. 11. The farewell banquet to Admiral Fairfax last night was a brilliant success. In referring to the defences of the Colonies, Admiral Fairfax said those of Victoria were most complete. New Zealand had j accomplished much, and what had been done had been done well. New South Wales, he thought, was behindhand with her defences, while Queensland had done little or nothing. He paid a high tribute of praise to the Naval and Military forces. In wishing them farewell, the Admiral expressed regret at his departure from Australia. ! A deputation waited on Admiral Fairfax i to-day, to urge the establishment of a branch of the Royal Naval , Reserve in Sydney. It was stated that there were twelve thousand men in the Colonies who were willing to join. The Admiral promised to bring the matter under the nofcice-of tiie Admiralty.
