In the City.

The two polling booths for the Northeast and South-west Wards presented aa animated appearance this morning, as the contests were expected to be somewhat keenly watched, particularly in the Southwest Ward, where the most activity prevailed. Mr B. H. Wood's Committeeroom, with Mr C. Kiver as a prominent fignre-head, was a small room ir mediately opposite St Michael's scl colroom, wherein the polling was condu ted by Mr Thomas Turner, assisted by Mr ±j. Leslie, as poll clerk. Mr V. Harris' Committee were content with the open air, and were exerting themselves from an early hour in running in the supporters of their candidate. The election in this ward is sure to be a very close one. At the Orange Hall there wa3 less excitement. One of the candidates, Mr W. H. Hosking, was taking no active measures, Bimply relying on his past record for his return, while Mr Eowe'a friends were up and at it early, and appeared sanguine of success. Mr Levoi seemed to have a large number of vehicles at his disposal, and the energy he was displaying showed that it will not be , his fault if the citizens decline to elect him as their representative on this his \ third attempt. The officer in charge of \ the North-east polling booth is Mr G. j Woodrough.
