» [from oub own correspondent.] WELLINGTON, June 19. A number of Auckland members arrived by steamer today. Sir George Grey will arrive on Sunday. It is on the cards that the proposal of the Wellington City Council to borrow £75,000 for various works will be abandoned inconsequence of the adverse verdict given at the public meeting on Thursday evening. The date of the poll has not been fixed, but there is to be a meeting on Monday night, and it is very likely that the poll will be abandoned. Mr Fish has booked the seat in the House next to that formerly occupied by Mr Fisher, and which the latter had ticketed for this session. Mr Fisher has now altered his mind, and will keep Mr Perceval company. A good deal of speculation is being indulged in as to Mr Fisher's probable action. The correspondence between him and Sir H. Atkinson is enormous, and will cost a lot of money to print. Government are said to have it nearly ready to lay on the table, and when that is done some warm work may be expected. [Per Press Association.] Voluminous correspondence has passed between Mr B. J. Creighton and the Post-master-General in reference to the San Francisco mail service. Mr Creighton is sanguine that the United States Government will agree to pay a subsidy of £10,000 per annum for a fast fortnightly Bervice, and that the Australian Colonies will contribute a lite sum. Mr Harkness, the member for Nelson, will move the Address-in-Eeply. Mr Humphreys, the member-elect for Christ* church North, has been asked to second it. Very few members have arrived yet, and it is not expected that more than thirty will be present at the opening of the session to-morrow. Such a scarcity of members on the first day of the session has not been known for years. Government refuse to allow a forecast of the speech to be published, but intend to let the evening papers have the full text to-morrow earlier than usual.
