Shaw led at the third hurdle, and jumping very prettily, won with a good deal in hand by syds. Time — ISsec, Quarter-mile Race. A. B. Williams 1 H. M. Reeves ... 2 H. Matson also started. Reeves made the running for the first 200 yds, leading by five yards. Turning into the straieht.:WiniaiQ S _wMJwifchin-fcurn yaras oriteeves, and the two ran a desperate race home. Williams, served by his strength against the strong wind, collared Reeves 20yds from home, and won by a bare yard. Time — 53-fsec. Throwing the La Crosse Ball. Mr R. H. Rhodes' prize. C. C. Corfe, 116 yds 2fc 9in ... 1 W. Macdonald, 101 yds 2ft Biu 2 D. Wood and F. S. Goldingham also competed. This competition was carried on somewhat under difficulties, owing to the high wind, and a better performance should result from the competition next year. One Mile Walk (New Zealand Championship, open to members of any Club affiliated to the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association). R. N. Thomas, C.A.A.C. ... 1 T. Kerr, D.A.A.C 2 A. L. Smith, C.A.A.C, also started. Smith only walked as far as the top of the straight, and then gave in. Kerr there had a lead of about a yard, which he kept until reaching the far side of the course, where he was collaredby Thomas. Passing the stand Thomas led by two yards, but he again indulged Kerr with the lead down the wind on the far side of the course. One hundred and twenty yards from home Thomas spurted, and walking in fine form he passed the post twenty yards ahead of Kerr, who finished pluckily. Time — 7min 40sec. 120 yds Handicap. FIRST TIES — FIRST HEAT. A. B. Williams, scratch ... 1 J. Way, Byds 2 S. Garrick, 4yds ... ... 3 Williams, finishing in his resolute style, won by a couple of feet ; a similar distance between Way and Garrick. Time — 13|seo. SECOND HEAT. G. W. Forbes 1 H. Lowry ... 2 G. A. Lewin 3 Forbea, who ran with a long, free stride, won easily by one and a half yards. Time — 12isec. High Jump. F. W. Ford, sfb lin 1 G. Shaw, 4ft 11-Ain 2 W. J. Moir and W. P. Studholme also competed. Ford and Shaw both jumped well, and the former won by one and a half inches. The winner then tried for Mr E. V. Hamilton's prize for a standard jump, sf fc 4in, but failed. 250 yds Flat Handicap. FIRST HEAT. P. A. Laurie, 10yds 1 H. Lowry, 9yds 2 j E. J. Wright, 15yds 3 | All three spurted for half the distance, 1 and then trotted in. Time — 28i-sdc. SECOND HEAT. H. M. Reeves, scratch 1 G. W. Forbes, 11yds ... ... 2 J. Way, 15yds 3 S. Garrick (6yds) also ran. Reeves won a capital race by a, foot ; a good third. Time— 2B§sec. THIRD ■ HEAT. P. Wood, 9yds 1 G. A. Lewin, 10yds 2 M. H. Lean, 17yds 3 A. E. Hawkins (22yds) also ran. About three yards separated the first three men, Hawkins beaten off. Time — 28-Jsec. Half-Mile. P. Morrison ... / 1 D. Wood 2 W. T. Willcox, G. Shaw, and H. M. Beeves also ran. Passing the stand the first time Morrison, Willcox, Wood* Shaw and Reeves ran in that order. The two latteralmost immediately retired. Morrison then improved his gait to almost a Bprint pace, and established a long lead. Wood ran gamely, and passed Willcox at the far side of the course, and Morrison, 'with the race in hand, slowed up and trotted in. Willcox, a bad third, did not pass the post. Time — 2min 7f 3ec.
