Rangiora.

The exceedingly heavy rain of the past twelve hours has, more or less, flooded •waterways and low lands in the northern district, and has interfered with railway traffic. The Waikari-Christchurch train could not get through, and the first train from Christchurch was sent on to the break, the locality of which could not be ascertained from the railway authorities at Eangiora. A special train was put on to convey passengers from Eangiora to the city. The Oxford line was under water between Bennetts' and Oust, and the morning train had great difficulty in getting through, the water being up to the axles in some places. The train was despatched back from Eangiora, but there was little hope of its reaching Oxford. All trains were, of course, considerably behind time. It is still raining (9.30 a.m.) from the South-east.
