Chinese Gamblers.

[Pbb Pbess Association.] WELLINGTON, August 4. Judgment was delivered in the Resident Magistrate's Court, this morning, in the case of Van Quon, charged with being the keeper of a gambling-house. The defendant was the occupant of the houße on which the police made a raid last Satnrday night. Counsel for the defence called twenty-nine Chinese, who were arrested on that occasion, to prove that no gambling was going on at the time. The Magistrate held that the case was proved against accused, and ordered him to pay a fine of JBIS and COBtB. Leave to appeal was granted.
