Timaru Harbour Board.

• * An ordinary meeting was held yesterday. It was resolved to send a letter of condolence to Mrs Moody with regard to the lamented death of her husband, who was always a distinguished and energetic member of the Board. Messrs Perry and Perry wrote, intimating that judgment in the appeal case, Shaw, Savill v. the Board, might be delivered any day. In pursuance of the solicitors' suggestion, it was resolved — "That the member for Timaru be requested to take the necessary steps for an amendment to the Timaru Harbour Board Loan Act, 1885, for the purpose of assimilating the rating in all parts of the Borough and district of Timaru equally, \iz., on the capital value of all properties rateable under the Rating Act ; and that the whole of the members for South Canterbury be aeked to support Mr Turnbull respecting the above, ic being important in the interests of the Board and district that the amending Act should pass this session." The Standing Committee recommended several reductions, the salaries of the Secretary, Engineer, and Harbour Master to remain as at present ; the master of the dredge and the fireman of the tug to be dispensed with ; Mr Waldron to act as master of both tug and dredge; the night watchman to be dispensed with ; a boy to be appointed in lieu of the present Clerk. The saving thus to be effected was estimated at JES4I 12s. Consideration of the report was adjourned. Mr Marchant, the Board's engineer, submitted his report, which was of an ordinary character. After disposing of financial and routine business, the Board adjourned.
