The Hurunui Record. Mr J. Painter, C.8.C., started this morning at 6.3 o'clock from the Carlton Hotel, on an attempt to break Mr Duncan's Hurunui record of lOhr 16min. Mr Bargrove and several others went a short distance with him. There was a slight breeze blowing. The strong sou-west wind now blowing will greatly affect him on the return journey. LATER. A private telegram states that Mr Painter passed Waikari at 9.15 a.m., going, and Amberley at 1.20 p.m., returning. _________
