Hereford Street.

About 7 o'clock last evening a small fire occurred in Lightband, Allan and Co.'s boot factory, in Hereford street. The hands had all knocked off work, and most of them had left the premises, when a strong smell of burning boots was noticed by the factory manager and another man. On going to the cellar, where a large quantity of boots were stored, they found that a case of gum boots was on fire. With the aid of a fow buckets of water the fire was quickly put out. The case of boots was supposed to have become ignited through spontaneous combustion. Had it occurredlater-— i the evening, a very large fire would probably have resulted. The building and stock were insured for a very large amount in the Union and other offices.
