SLY GROG SELLING.
[Pan PsKsa Association.]
AUCKLAND, August 27. Numerous complaints were made some time ago of sly grog selling at Whangarei and other places north of Auckland, and it is said that Inspeotor M'Govern's appointment was in a measure due to these reports. Kecen<ly Deteotive M'Grath was brought up from Wairarapa, as being less known than the Auokland detectives, and he has been working in the Waipu district disguised as a gum digger. As the result of this observation a quantity of spirituous liquor was seized at the premises of H. N. Simpson, who was subsequently charged at the KM. Court, Whangarei, with selling liquor to the detective, and fined £20 and £3 14s costs.
